Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu
The (Hyoho) Niten Ichi-ryu is arguably most famous for its founder, Miyamoto Musashi Genshin. Musashi was made particularly famous by the writer Yoshikawa Eiji, in his novel "Musashi." Subsequently, many movies and TV dramas were made depicting his life, most of which were based on Yoshikawa's fictionalized exploits of this actual historical character. (See Furyu #1 for a brief synopsis of Musashi's history, and Furyu #3 for a discussion of his style). The style takes its name from Musashi's pen name, Niten Doraku. Musashi was an artist as well as a martial artist. This video clip was taken by John Clement, a Furyu fan and aikido practitioner, at a demonstration at Miyajima Shrine in 1998, and is used courtesy of Mr. Clement. |
