Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu (1): Yaegaki

The Yaegaki kata is number five (gohonme) of the Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu iai style, in its seiza no bu section. Yaegaki means "eightfold fence," and may refer to an ancient poem in which eight-fold symbolizes unending; therefore a series of movements that can be repeated over and over again. In other words, even after the first cut and noto (putting away the sword), you can continue to cut and put away the sword over and over again according to necessity. In the sister school of the Muso Shinden-ryu iai, this kata is referred to as Inyo Shintai ("yin-yang, advancing-retreating").

The kata is performed by Tanaka sensei, godan, from Tokyo, Japan.
