Time Passing. . .

Longtime readers of this web site and Furyu the Budo Journal will realize, like I have, that time seemed to have passed in the blink of an eye when all of a sudden, you realize that, hey, it's been over a year since the last print issue of Furyu. Geez, Wayne, you may say, git your butt in gear.

The past year has been a pretty unsettling one in terms of my personal life, which is why Furyu was put on hold. And since I was putting together the whole thing basically by my lonesome, when ol' Wayne was too bummed out to do much after his day job, a lot of things suffered, including maintaining the continuity of our publishing. A separation, impending divorce, therapy, job changes and the like pretty much had me walking around like a living zombie most of the time, until I gradually pulled the pieces together.

Revamping this site is the first step, and I will tackle the completion of Furyu issue #11 next. But this time I'm not alone. I've found over the past months a cadre of people nearly as crazy as I am, who are willing to help put together Furyu for little or no monetary remuneration. (I don't make anything out of this either, although it's not from lack of trying.) So one of the things I realized is that this baby has grown so much I can't do it alone. You'll be seeing more names beside the usual stalwart group of friends who've helped me in the past appearing in the print journal first, then on this web site, as I get my brains organized enough to contact these various volunteers.

That's actually what I intended to do in the first place, and so here we go. From the earliest beginnings, when Charles Goodin and Dave Lowry helped me out, to when I was able to assemble a smallish group of willing contributing writers...to the near future, when more of the production and editing work will be done by a network of like-minded individuals, Furyu, hopefully, will grow. And again, it would not be possible without its readers. Thank you again. Life goes on, and it's a sometimes sad but oftentimes wonderful thing that can happen in between life and death. My thanks in advance to all the volunteer help and writers, including Bob Wolfe, Gary and Clarisse Omori, and others.

A short note:
Sharp-eyed karate enthusiasts caught my error many times over when I ran a GIF animation of Odo Seikichi in our Online pages and called him the "late" Odo sensei when he was still very, very much alive. I must have been thinking of a couple of other teachers I knew who had just died, and in my mixed-up brain, somehow put it down mistakenly.

One student of Odo sensei warned me of using his name and figure because he had it trademarked, although upon reflection, I feel that I had Odo sensei's express permission when I interviewed and photographed him many years ago. In fact, he was more than happy to accommodate me as a journalist.

Just when I was reworking this entire site, however, I received word from his students that Odo sensei had just passed away. I certainly don't think I was a jinx in any way by that inadvertent mistake, but again, my public apologies to Odo sensei's students, and my sincere condolences.
